Classifying copper wire is based on the yield of copper remaining after the insulation has been stripped off the wire. The different grades of copper wiring include: High-grade #1 insulated copper wire: Wire or cable that …
Small scratches should not affect conductivity of the copper wire at all. This is common when stripping wires bare with knives, side cutters and other misc tools. When one is preparing copper wire they should get into the habit of using wire strippersthis particular tool strips wire to gauge minimizing damage.
BARE BRIGHT COPPER. This is the most valuable copper castoff metal among scrap dealers because it is a high-paying grade. Bare bright copper is uncoated, unalloyed, bare wire or cable, no more than …
It is about 80% recoverable, valued at $2.22/lb. Comparatively, someone buying bare bright for $3.40/lb is actually paying about $2.72 after processing costs. This …

As you know, aluminum and copper are the top conductors of electricity used in most electrical cables. While aluminum is a leader in power cables, copper is a popular conductor for home wiring. Care to know why? Read this blog to find out. History of Copper and Aluminum Wiring Both aluminum and copper have been used in wiring as …
Wire stripping. Luxinar CO 2 laser systems are also particularly well-suited for wire stripping, as they provide a non-contact solution that accurately removes insulation without damaging the underlying conductive material. This process is ideal for delicate or complex wires, such as those found in the aerospace or medical device industries.
I've stripped back the wires about 30cm and found two out of three wires still have black strands. On the wire that feeds the internal lights the stands are still bright copper in colour - no black discolouration nor any sign of oxidation. The colour of the insulation is white on one wire, brown on another and black on the other.
About half of the people stripped down further would only get it down to the THHN, and the other half were completely stripped of everything, turning it into a clean, stripped copper wire. Related …
I found an article Insulated Wire and Antennas, Rudy Severns N6LF, January 2017.It tells there is influence on reception (like The insulation makes the wire electrically a little longer (≈1.5%) it is about Ri) but the conclusion is:. Looking at all these considerations it's clear that in general leaving the insulation on the wire is pretty benign …
Usually* the wire with the white stripe or the dashed lines carries the "positive" (+) end, while the other, unmarked wire carries the "negative" (-) end. It doesn't matter if it is striped or dashed, the …
Here are current approximate prices according to commodity markets: – Unstripped copper wire, $1.50-$2.50 per pound. – No. 1 bare bright copper wire, $2.00-$3.30 per pound. – No. 2 copper wire, $2.20-$3.50 per …
#1 Insulated Wire #1 insulated wire consists of copper wire or cable which is clean, unalloyed, uncoated and untinned. It should also be plastic insulated, of 16 gauge thickness or larger, with all ends cut off. Though insulation does not need to be stripped, if it were the wire within should closely resemble 'bright & shiny' copper wire.
Maybe you guys know about this. I just happened across a video where he fixed stripped threads with copper wire. Quickly Fix a Stripped Aluminum Bolt hole copper wire trick sixtyfiveford - YouTube. Ask your scrap yard about how they identify their stainless steel grades. As mentioned above, you may not know the difference between copper grades when …
However, when these wires are stripped from motors and copper yokes, the scrap yards will not buy the wire at a #1 copper price. Instead, those wires will be priced at a #2 copper wire due to the shellac and covering on the outside of the wire. In the video below, you can see what Tom refers to regarding the different color wires and types.
I noticed a lot of people online recently, some here some elsewhere, asking about copper wire and if stripping it is worth it or not. So I made a video about it to try and answer some of these questions. Most of the video is boring math on a white board which some of you on here already know. Some of the video is a time lapse of me running the …

Bluedog Scrapping Tip: With its insulation removed, the wiring should look like #2 copper wire. To get this rate you don't need to remove plug ends. #3 BX Cable: …
The making of braided copper strip. Flexible, thin wire strands of copper are joined together. Then, they are wound on high-speed rotating spools in a circular pattern. This forms a sturdy braid. Insulated aluminum wire is often used to replace copper wire in many instances as a cheaper and easier solution. While it is not quite as good a conductor as copper, aluminum wire can be lighter in weight and should also be considered a valuable metal when scrapping. ... Let's explore some manual techniques that can be effective in certain situations.
Loctite Stripped Thread Repair Epoxy, JB Weld, and; Copper Wire. Each damaged or stripped thread repair product was compared for maximum tightening strength and compared against a baseline (1/2 inch threaded aluminum). Damaged threads repaired by each product are then tested for tensile strength until the product failed or the bolt broke.

OK, I'm not going to ask which to use for DCC stranded or solid, but a friend of mine gave me a bunch of stranded wire, both 14 and 22 gauge. I noticed when I stripped the ends, the wire is tinned copper vs. copper. Is it OK to use this type of wire for DCC ? Thanks in advance. Bill.
Only you can decide for yourself whether or not to strip certain wires. There can be a lot of factors to the decision, I suppose. I don't strip down tinned copper, but that's my choice. For the most part, I will strip wire if it results in at least #2 copper prices. Depends on the PITA factor.
