My 4400 has only one filter for the trans and hydraulic system, located under the middle of the tractor. My 6400 has a trans filter and a separate hydraulic filter. There were four magnets inside the screen on my 2210, and like Tom said, there were a lot of shavings that I was glad I took the time to remove. This was at the 50 hour service. Also, like others have mentioned, I could swap the filter and only lose a qt or so, but every stinkin drop came out when I replaced the screen.

After pulling the suction filter I found that it was filled with metal fillings on half of it and the other half did not look too bad but it had gunk on the ends. The manual said to use a mild solvent to clean the screen but does not suggest any.

Presumably you changed the hydrostatic charge pressure filter, which is a spin-on type. The suction screen on a 1210 is bolted directly onto the intake port of the hydraulic pump and can be serviced without draining the tractor's hydraulic system. 4 bolts hold the rear cover on the screen housing.

Just completed the 200 hr service on my 2018 1025r (at 100 hrs). There was no magnet in the suction screen. I bought the tractor used from a JD dealer and I'm virtually certain that this was the first changeout of hydraulic fluid.
