I am trying to drill about 1.3 inches through M2 with a .295 solid carbide drill. Using a SFM of 75 i came up with a spindle of 971 and a feed of 3.5. Im also pecking every .100. I am not center drilling at all just going straight into a drill peck. 75 x 3.82 / .295 = 971 RPM 971 x 1 x .004 = 3.884

Here's what I've got- Walter drill, Western Tool part number TTI A1149XPL-NO55. It's a parabolic stubby cobalt screw machine drill with TALN coating, .052" diameter. I'm drilling .0787" through the material. I'm inclined to think a peck would be worse for the drill than going a little over 1.5 diameters deep and just going all the way through.
Third is that the drill press is not likely to do the job. A <3/4" hole in 1/4" steel tubing, even step drilled, is a challenge for a drill press because when the drill breaks through, its going want to grab the steel and screw into it. A drill press with hand control is difficult to control in that situation.
